Hydraulic
Transients, Water Hammer and Surges
- Role of hydraulic transients in the failure of 6" riser pipe
in sprinkler system in an office building. Provided forensic engineering
services to determine if transient pressures generated by closure of
a butterfly valve could have caused the failure. Case still in litigation.
- Role of transients in a fire caused by the failure of a 2000 ton hydraulic
press hydraulic line. Provided forensic engineering services to determine
the cause of the failure. Prepared expert testimony and a written report.
The case was settled out of court.
- Transients caused by failure of pressure relief valves on the Olympic
gasoline pipeline. Provided forensic engineering services to determine
the cause of the pipe rupture and the role of the high pressure transients
caused by the relief valves. Prepared expert testimony and a written
report. The case was settled out of court.
- Failure of a rural pipeline in South Dakota. Provided forensic engineering
services to determine what role of hydraulic transients played in the
failure of the pipe. Prepared several expert reports, affidavits and
gave two depositions. Spent 6 weeks in court evaluating testimony of
opposing experts and testifying for the defense. Case settled in court.
- Transients caused by rapid filling and operation of air release valves,
Stockton East Water District. Provided forensic engineering services
to determine the cause of the failure. Prepared expert testimony and
a written report. Case settled out of court.
- Transients caused by valve closure in the piping of a cooling tower.
Determined the cause of the failure. Prepared expert testimony and a
written report and trial testimony.
